User Experiences and UnderTeaux

This week's reading has me thinking about how our class can contribute to the user experience (UX) of UnderTeaux's fans through the work we're doing for them.  I went to UnderTeaux's website (not the Facebook page, the one on Reverbnation), and I found a picture of them playing at the Horticulture Gardens.

And it was really neat to see that image because I was actually there, live when they played that gig.  Something about the shared experience of that image connected with me at a visceral level in the same way that Buxton's juicer connected for him.  And that's what I think we're trying to do with the visual images that we're going to be creating for UnderTeaux's first CD.  We're creating a visual image with which fans can connect at a visceral level.  We need to avoid providing too much info in our visual--like this:

And try to find something simple that people immediately identify with -- like Deadmau5:

  1. I agree with the connection at a visceral level. Music, with possibly the exception of IDM, is experienced as such and too much visual information could detract from the overall experience. That being said, I am a bit of an audiophile and enjoy when albums include lyrics, liner notes, etc. BTW, I ran into Deadmau5 at Coachella Music and Arts Festival in 2010, and we had a great time dancing around in the desert.

  2. Deadmau5!! I dream of some day designing something as immediately identifiable and as widely recognizable as that distinctive mau5head :-)

  3. I'm actually really glad that you're advocating some simplicity (which I don't believe is a bad word) with this project in regards to our visual.

I feel that right now designing a visually complex layout is not advisable, not only because it's unnecessary, but also because I probably can't create one — a good, aesthetically-pleasing one, anyway.

Although I believe I have a good idea of what I can use to rhetorically works, I'm not an artist. It's better for me to rely on more purposed and uncomplicated designs right now. Just wondering if anyone else feels the same way?
